Lugbara
While many Lugbara who live in northwest Uganda claim to be Christian, they have no real knowledge of the Gospel or of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Oral Bible stories allow the Gospel to be presented in a clear and applicable manner. Pray for ears to hear and faith to believe as God’s Word is shared.
Karamojong
In northeastern Uganda lives a nomadic tribe, the Karamojong, who place greater value on cattle than on anything else. Carrying guns and fighting between sub-tribes mainly over their animals makes the region dangerous for missionaries. Oral Bible stories penetrate the hearts of the Karamojong and groups are forming. Ask God for Karamojong leaders who will leave their dependence on witch doctors and trust in God alone.
Burundians
After years of war and instability in the small nation of Burundi, a peace accord was signed in 2006. Once thought to be Christian, there is much hate and mistrust in Burundi. Pray for lasting peace and for missionaries to enter Burundi and reach Burundians for Christ. Pray that Burundians will turn to the only One who can provide true and lasting peace.
Aringa
Near the Sudan border in northwestern Uganda live the Aringa people with 99% claiming to be followers of Islam. Determined to keep the Good News of Christ out, the Aringa harass the few believers, thus creating fear in Christians gathering together. They are suspicious of outsiders and do not mix with nearby people groups. Pray that workers would not be paralyzed by fear and for the translation of God’s Word in Aringa.
Acholi
The instability of the Lord’s Resistance Army has hindered the spread of the Gospel among the Acholi. Now with less conflict present, there seems to be a window of opportunity to access the Acholi. Serving as strategy explorers, missionaries are choosing to travel this war-torn northern area of Uganda to determine if openness exists. Pray for workers among the Acholi.
