Zimtswana Cluster

The Zimtswana cluster consists of people groups living in Zimbabwe, Botswana and a part of South Africa. Praise the Lord that there are no people groups over 100,000 in population that are less than 2% evangelized. Thank God for the existing church and pray that they would boldly share the Good News of Christ and be salt and light among their people and communities. Following are three people groups that are the least evangelized within this part of Central, Eastern and Southern Africa.

Herero of Botswana
The Herero people, found in Botswana, have no known strong church among them. These stately looking people who wear 18th century style clothing live in scattered villages of Nambia and Botswana. Choosing to limit their involvement with others presents a barrier to the Gospel. Jesus said, “Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest field.” Pray that God would call out missionaries to find strategies to reach the Herero with the Gospel in ways they can understand.

Tswana
The Tswana people, now targeted by missionaries, are still the largest single under-reached people group in Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe. From the Tswana living in villages and raising cattle, to those working in urban areas and driving expensive cars; they have not responded to the Good News of Christ. The Bible says that God “wants all me to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” Pray that the hearts of the Tswana would be softened to the Gospel and that a church planting movement would take place among them.

Kgalagadi
One of the most neglected and overlooked people groups in southern Africa may be the Kgalagadi, who live in the desert of Botswana. This smaller people group does not have the Bible in their language. They are a group who is disappearing, dying without Christ. Barriers to the Gospel are language, culture and their isolated location. Isaiah prophesied of John the Baptist’s ministry: “A voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’” Pray that Christ would be faithfully proclaimed to these people dwelling in the desert, and that the hearts of the Kgalagadi will be prepared for the Lord.
