Ngangela
The Ngangela people of Angola (Nyemba in Namibia) are located in southern Angola and northern Namibia. Living in isolated areas, they herd goats and practice subsistence farming. Introduction to the Gospel in the past has not profoundly changed their traditional beliefs and practices. In recent years, however, some indigenous Baptist church planting efforts have begun. Paul said that prayers should be made for “all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” Pray for continued political stability to give the Ngangela opportunity to hear the Good News of Christ resulting in a sustainable church planting effort.

Lunda
Living in the north central part of Angola, diamond mining affects every aspect of the Lunda people’s lives. People of other countries, including a large West African Muslim population, come to seek their fortunes in diamonds. Between African
Traditional Religion, the desire for riches, and the influence of foreign religions, evangelical Christianity struggles to take root in the hearts of these people. Paul said “a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.” Pray for faithful leadership among Angolan Baptists as they seek to reach the Lunda people. Ask God to give these workers an open door to this strategic area.

Nkhumbi
The Nkhumbi of southwestern Angola live in scattered villages according to their family groups. Moving to find water for their herds, their traditional practices involve worshiping their ancestors and seeking guidance from them for daily survival. Their isolated lifestyle causes suspicion of outsiders and presents additional barriers to the Gospel. Likewise, close ties shared within the community make it difficult for an individual to accept Jesus, as it may cause them to face exclusion from all they have known. Jesus “came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.” Pray for missionaries and Angolan Baptists to willingly cross the barriers in order to reach the Nkhumbi.
