God Working

Bush Emergency: 9-1-1

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

I feared the worst as I hung up the phone. A missionary had appendicitis.
Deep in the bush with no available medical care, it would take two
plane trips to get him to a city for surgery. It was my responsibility to get
this man medical attention, but only the Father could help him in time.
We were racing against the clock!

A few phone calls later, I was on a small plane and the family on
another so that we could meet for the last leg of the journey. After landing,
I rushed to the small four-seater plane to assess his condition. His
face was a ghastly white, and he was dehydrated. After situating him on
the larger plane, I prayed, asking God to take control of this seemingly
impossible situation.

In the rush to get on the plane, not everyone had a passport. The
authorities wouldn’t let us take off. All we could do was pray for guidance
as the missionary groaned in pain. Finally, after more than two
hours, we were allowed to leave.

When we landed in the city, the airport was dark. Being after hours,
local authorities immediately seized the passports that some of us had.
After more begging and praying, we were finally allowed to take the
patient to the hospital for emergency surgery.
Because of the faithfulness of our Father in answering prayers, the
missionary made it in time. Praise God for taking care of His workers
—especially when the clock is ticking.

Father God, I pray that You will bring health to missionaries who need this
provision today. If there are any emergencies, allow them to be handled in a
timely manner. Amen.
