Spiritual Warfare

What if?

“Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord
your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NKJV)

As I came to our gate, a truck pulled in front of me and some men
jumped out. They forced their way into my vehicle, bound me and
threw me in the backseat across the floorboard.

As I lay on the floor, I heard God speaking to me loud and clear. He
told me to sit back and enjoy the ride. Prayer helped me stay calm as the
bandits drove the truck across potholes, ditches and washboard surfaces.
I had no idea where we were or where we were going. Despite
this, I felt at total peace. God kept telling me that He was in control. I
began praying and singing praises. After an hour and a half, the joyride
was over. The bandits finally threw me out on the side of the road. I
was fine!

After returning home, my mind started playing tricks with me. Replaying
the scene, my thoughts twirled with “what ifs.” It was hard to
sleep. Praise God that scriptures came to mind and settled me down. So
I began praying for Satan to be far removed from me. Each time a “what
if” surfaced, I prayed or sang. God’s love enveloped me. The “what ifs”
didn’t happen, so why be anxious?

Without the Lord, my ride with the bandits could have been life
threatening, but His grace is sufficient. Giving every thought to the
Lord during and after the situation is what brought total peace instead
of fear.

Precious Father, You are worthy of my trust. I know that You will not leave me
or forsake me. Protect me from the evil one. Protect missionaries in dangerous
situations today. Preserve their very lives. Amen.
