. During this time of elections and inaugurations during the States, we are reminded of other forms of leadership in Namibia. Namibia has elected officials but it also has a system of chiefs for the different people groups. A debate arose and continues over the right of succession following the death of Chief Munjuku of the Ovambanderu traditional community, in January of this year. The battle is between 2 half-brothers of the former chief and their followers and differences in beliefs as to who is the rightful heir of the title. One of the brothers, Keharanjo II Nguvauva, was “presented” to the ancestors before sunrise at one of the holy gravesites as well as other traditional rites, before being introduced to an excited crowd as the new chief in August. Battles such as this can take years to sort through and for the government to recognize the chiefs officially. In the midst of this turmoil, not only is there a lostness due to a lack of chief, there is clearly a lostness from the lack of a Savior. Pray for the unreached peoples of Namibia. As they search for truth through the ancestors, pray for them to see that truth is only found through Jesus Christ. Pray that through all of the political bureaucracy, missionaries will be allowed to share among the people groups in Namibia.
