1) Recently, Jeff and Mary Polglase visited the most northern part of Malawi to lead a refresher workshop for teachers of literacy. Most of those trained last year have classes in their villages. They shared how many of their students are not church members. Pray that God will bless the efforts of these teachers. Pray that He will give them opportunities each class time to give witness of their faith in Jesus Christ. Pray that during the difficult days when students feel discouraged because they are not learning as quickly as they had hoped, that the teachers will know how to encourage them to press on and not give up.

2). It has been about a year since the Tumbuka and Ngonde teams started a literacy program in the north of Malawi. Developing the Tumbuka literacy books was a joint effort of the Malawi Mission and Literacy Evangelism International of Tulsa, Oklahoma. In one of the villages in the Karonga district, one of the men who was a part of the team that developed the books was teaching men and women. This man is also the pastor for his church. Some local government authorities working in his village inquired about the books he was using and also asked to come and observe him. They were so impressed with the books that he was using that they asked if they could possibly also use these materials and be trained in the way that he was trained to teach! Pray that a relationship can be established between the Baptist Mission, the Baptist Convention in Malawi, and the Malawi Government that would allow us to reach even more people through literacy.
