END VISION FOR THE SAMBURU PEOPLE
For every Samburu man, woman and child to have the opportunity to hear and respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We will do this by planting reproducing churches in villages and population centers, requiring thousands
of churches. As this is accomplished these reproducing churches will carry the Gospel and the vision into the neighboring tribes of Pokot and Turkana.
HABAKKUK 2:3

YOU SAY GOODBYE

The saying goes that the one thing that is constant in life is change. The one thing that is constant in the life of a missionary is saying goodbye. It seems no matter which side of the ocean we are on, we are continually saying goodbye to people we love. Last visit in Nairobi we said goodbye to some dear colleagues. Some are retiring and heading to the States, others will be relocating to different parts of the world. Of course, thanks to email and the internet, we are able to keep up with their lives in a way that was not possible in other times. Still, it doesn’t replace the personal contact of being able to see and talk to a friend face to face. It does make one realize that the things that matter most in life aren’t things at all. And that the pain we feel when we miss someone is a reminder of how blessed we are to love.

JUNE UPDATE

We don’t have a summer season here, but time seems to be flying by as if it were summer. We’ve taken a short break from school and I’m trying to get organized for the next “year.” We have received all Joseph’s new books and things to begin 1st grade studies. This year, we’ll begin more of a classically styled curriculum and will study the ancient civilizations of Rome, Greece, Egypt, etc. It should be a lot of fun.
We attended our annual meeting in June with over 100 of our missionary colleagues. It was a crazy busy schedule of meetings, but the evenings after dinner let us play a little catch up with friends we don’t see very often.
The highlight of the week was the evening talent show held on Thursday night. Talent ranged from teens playing the spoons (quite well!) to young children reciting poetry. There may even be a video on YouTube of a group of young women satirizing all the changes taking place in our organization and how confusing it all can be. It was cleverly written to the tune of “YMCA”. At the end of the week, our children performed a musical they had been working on with the volunteer children’s workers. Joseph had the opening verse and afterward proceeded to steal the show all throughout the performance in a very unique way. I won’t “pick” on him, but let’s just say the boy needed a tissue!
There are a lot of changes taking place in our organization. We don’t see that they will affect us very much, but many people are being dramatically affected. Please pray for our missionaries around the world. The life we live is very different and can be stressful, simply because we live it far from our roots.  Pray that we’ll all be able to make the necessary adjustments with grace and peace.

PRAYER REQUESTS

    • We’ve had 2 days of rain in the past 2 months. We need so much more.
    • Pray for discernment as we have new opportunities in front of us for new areas of ministry.
    • Pray for our pastors to grow in their knowledge and obedience of God’s will.
    • Pray for dozens who are waiting for baptism that they will understand what it means to follow Christ.
