Our first week here we met a Muslim guy at Embassy Supermarket. He is around my age (24). We were in the supermarket looking for a rolling pin for a missionary colleague. We needed some help finding them so we just asked the first employee we saw. It was M. He took us to the rolling pins, and we began a conversation with him. He asked us if we were Christians, and we said yes. He then asked if we were "born again." We told him we were. He told us he was Muslim, and we said we figured that because he had told us his name. He told us he prayed at a mosque in town, but was interested in knowing more about being born again. We told him we would love to share with him. He told us that everyone changes in life, and I believe I could change. I said, "I know you can change, because Christ can change your heart." I also said, "As a matter of fact, it is not by coincidence that we came in here to buy a rolling pin and asked you to help us. God has sent my wife and I and other colleagues here to your city to tell people about the truth. And I believe that God led us here not only to buy a rolling pin, but to talk to you." At that point, a tear began to roll down M's face, and his heart was touched by what we had said." We set up an appointment to meet with him the following week. We found out that he only gets two off days a month (!) and he took one of those days to meet with us. We met with him on a Tuesday morning in a Shell gas station, and we talked about the gospel for about an hour. He was so very interested in what we were showing him from the Bible. In the beginning we tried to make small talk with him, but after about 2 or 3 minutes he said, "Ok. Let's talk about God's word." He trusted Christ that day and has been so excited and encouraging to us ever since. We brought him some materials to help him grow in his faith since he works everyday from 9 to 9, and never has the opportunity to meet with other believers. We are working on a way that we can meet with him to disciple him. Pray for this man and others in the Central, Eastern, Southern Africa region who are searching for the truth. Pray that God would indeed diarize divine appointments for them to hear the truth of the Gospel of Christ. Click here to read more about the Muslim peoples and for more prayer opportunities |
