Tell me more about Madagascar. Where is Madagascar? Bara: approx 540,000 people with little evangelical work at all, perhaps some of the Lutheran work there might tend toward evangelical; they are known as the “cowboys” of Madagascar and live in a large area in the south central part of the island; value is measured by how many zebu cattle you have. Mahafaly: approx 240,000 with little evangelical work at all; very dry and harsh living conditions; lack of good roads makes it difficult to access them; live in southwest part of the island. Antakarana: approx 88,000 with virtually no evangelical witness that we are aware of; very isolated Muslim people in the northern part of the island. Vezo: approx 166,000 scattered along the western coast; primarily fishermen; few groups are intentionally targeting them as far as we know. Antandroy: approx 700,000 with still large numbers of people to be reached located in the extreme south of the island; live in arid conditions with cactus and thorn bushes. Tsimihety: approx 1,100,000 with still large numbers of unreached located in the north central part of the island; agriculturalists who don’t move around of interact much with other tribes. A major request on behalf of each of these peoples is for laborers for the harvest, as at this point we don’t have anybody with IMB intentionally targeting them and are not aware of other evangelical groups that are making major efforts to see these people reached with the gospel. Many of the people in these tribes are into animism, fetishes and ancestor worship. Thanks for your prayers on behalf of these precious people. |
