It was a bright sunny Saturday morning.
Things were bustling as members were cooking and preparing for the big
day. Some had actually started
preparations the day before; they were preparing for a CELEBRATION!
Today, after more than 11 years, Sunningdale Baptist Fellowship would
become Sunningdale Baptist Church.
Today’s festivity was a culmination of the efforts of
many people throughout those eleven-plus years.
Parktown Baptist Church was an instigating force and a continuing help as
the Fellowship struggled to meet. Church
members commuted to the fellowship on bicycles and on foot to help the church on
Sunday mornings. Along with the
efforts of missionaries and volunteers throughout the years surveying the
high-density area of Sunningdale, witnessing door to door and holding revival
services, Sunningdale Baptist Fellowship continued to struggle forward.
There were setbacks to be sure but God is faithful and the fellowship
slowly began to grow.
The service began around 12:00 in the afternoon.
The area was packed out, not only with Sunningdale members, but also with
dignitaries from around Zimbabwe and invited guests from all over the Harare
area. The singing and praise time
was punctuated by the beating of drums and tambourines, and by dancing in the
aisles. These folks are not shy
when it comes to worship and praising the Lord!
An outsider might wonder why they have so much to be thankful for, most
live in the meanest of circumstances. But they understand that Christ provides
them with so much more than their circumstances.
Christ provides them with abundant life, peace in the midst of turmoil,
joy in all situations and a hope, not only for their future here on earth, but
the knowledge of an everlasting future with Him in heaven.
Sunningdale Baptist Church meets at 7:00 a.m. at the
Methodist Church plot. The
Methodist Church has graciously granted them the opportunity of a facility to
meet as they make application for a church plot.
The first steps are being taken, now that they are a full-fledged church
they can submit a land application and find a suitable location.
Pray for these committed believers.
Pray that they would continue to impact the area of Sunningdale where
thousands of people are searching for hope and a Savior.
