What a mighty God we serve! He takes a country in crisis and uses it for His glorious purposes.
The Mail & Guardian newspaper from Cape Town recently reported,

"Tens of thousands of immigrants have been forced to take refuge at temporary shelters around the country after mobs began attacking foreigners in squatter camps three weeks ago, killing at least 62 people."

From Johannesburg,

" A total of 10 camps are due to be built in the next few weeks to house up to 10 000 foreign nationals who have been forced out of their homes since an eruption of violence last month which left more than 60 people dead. ...While thousands of the immigrants have fled back to their homelands such as Zimbabwe and Mozambique, many others have been taking shelter in police stations and community centres -- often having to sleep head to toe and with an acute lack of toilet facilities."

In all of this fear and chaos, God is still at work bringing people unto Himself. Here is an exerpt from a recent email written by one of our IMB missionaries in South Africa.

"It is 10:45 p.m. here in Cape Town. I've just come in from being out with 5 of our missionaries.
We went to Thornton tonight to one of the churches housing 45 of the refugees.
We showed the Jesus DVD and then B shared more at the end. The blessing is B speaks Shona and many of these folk are originally from Zimbabwe. Amazing how God works things out.
At the conclusion of B's sharing, he asked if any of them would like to commit their life to the Lord. Well, it was awesome as 22 of them prayed to receive Christ.
In the midst of the challenges of being displaced, God is being glorified. One of my seminary students rejoiced on Monday when I told them about the church where I'm a member and they had 15 accept the Lord last week after a Bible study.
I wanted to share this with you all and ask for your prayers as we try to disciple these folk. Pray that some of the seminary students who speak Shona will be able to go there and help to begin the discipling.
God is good."

The missionary goes on to say...

"I've got Bibles for each of the ones who made a commitment. One of the guys at Pinelands Baptist is a seminary graduate. He is from Zimbabwe and speaks Shona. I spoke with Brian this morning and he is going to encourage this seminary graduate to go there to disciple the folk.
I've also typed up a two page paper that welcomes them to God's Family. In it, I've written passages they need to read, talked about prayer, worship, baptism and their relationship with the Lord. I'm putting their personal name on them to make it special.
God is good.
I'm very weary but will rest some over the weekend, I hope.

Baptist Global Response has teamed up with IMB missionaries to get some relief supplies to these hurting people.

Even in difficult situations, God is on His throne - people are being saved and discipled.  Pray for the people living in these chaotic times - that they would see God and trust Him.  After all He is our Hope!
