A WONDERFUL MISSION EXPERIENCE

October 8-10, 2004 was a very exciting time for the Phuzumoya Baptist Church (Swaziland).  Volunteers from the Phoenix Baptist Church of the Indian Baptist Association in Durban, South Africa came prepared to conduct weekend VBS, lead a church leadership session, present AIDS education, a basic medical clinic and lead worship services.

In preparation for this team, the Phuzumoya Baptist Church was responsible for housing arrangements.  A large house was provided by the railroad station near the church to help house the volunteer team.

When missionary Wayne Myers arrived Saturday morning, October 9th, the children were organized into 4 or 5 groups doing various activities in the main church building.  Team members were busy teaching.  Near the side of the door 10 or 12 grandmothers or "bagogo" were sitting on grass mats and watching the teaching with great interest.  Wayne counted 118 children involved in these activities.

Next door to the church in the preschool building were 50 youth and church leaders listening to the pastor from the Pheonix Baptist Church teach about church growth and the necessity of every member being an active witness.  He also taught that for growth to take place the church leaders must be faithful to come to all the services of the church so that others can see the importance.  The final session was on tithing.  Again he emphasized church leaders must lead the way in this.  The people from the Phuzumoya Baptist Church especially enjoyed his emphasis that tithing was not giving God a tip.  God doesn't want a tip. He expects our tithe.

After a morning filled with learning, the team prepared peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for about 200 people!J

Plans for the afternoon was to minister to the community by doing a small medical clinic primarily treating cuts, headaches, etc.  The team's special treat to the people of the Phuzumoya Baptist Church before the Saturday evening worship service was an Indian curry meal!
